Event: Cyprus Bank Holiday – Orthodox Good Friday Details: The bright red hard boiled eggs are coloured on Thursday after the Divine Liturgy is the symbol of Easter (or Pascha). Saturday night the Easter bread and red eggs is taken to the church service and blessed by the Priests, first egg is cracked on the church wall and eaten, remainder taken home. The ritual of cracking the eggs takes part before Easter lunch, each family member takes an egg tapping against the other person’s egg, the last egg to be cracked the owner is believed to have a good year. |
